Lancaster City Council Votes In Favour of New Build Nuclear
The Council voted to respond positively to the consultation on the National Policy Statements proposing a new generation of nuclear power stations. The Green Party was the only party to vote against this recommendation.

Heysham 1 Nuclear Power Station Offline
One of the reactors at Heysham 1 nuclear power station was taken offline after an unplanned outage. Internet rumours suggest it was caused by a computer virus, but a spokesperson for EDF Energy denied these rumours.

Heysham 2 Power Station Will Operate For Another 10 Years
The Nuclear Installations Inspectorate approved Heysham 2 Power Station to run for another 10 years in its independent Periodic Safety Review. This will undoubtedly have consequences on the decision of when to build the proposed new reactor at Heysham, with no clear start date for construction, a new power station could be many years away.

Government Approves New Nuclear Power Station at Heysham
The Labour Government has approved 10 sites for a new generation of nuclear power stations in England and Wales. One of the new nuclear power stations will be built at Heysham in Lancashire, and three other sites were in Cumbria: Braystones, Kirksanton and Sellafield. The North-West has a disproportionate number of the new proposed sites, and raises questions about infrastructure for radioactive waste management.
